Floral types
- FORM MATERIAL refers to flowers that have an outstanding shape that sets them apart. Orchids and exotic lilies are examples of form flowers.
- LINE MATERIAL such as irises, snapdragons, delphinium and long, slender foliages provide strong linear elements in a design.
- MASS MATERIAL is the mainstay of flower arranging. Roses,
chrysanthemums and carnations are but some of the flowers that impart a
sense of weight and mass. Because of this, they are often used as the
focal point of an arrangement.
- FILLER MATERIAL is used (as its name implies) to fill in,
provide contrast, and give a finished look to a design. The best known
filler is, of course, baby's breath.
