Mini Carnation: dianthus caryophyllus nana
CARNATIONS/MINI CARNATIONs
These double flowers have five ragged, saw-toothed or scalloped
petals that rise from a tubular calyx. Standard carnations are 2-3
inches across and solitary on a stem, which ranges from 1-3 feet long.
Mini (or spray) carnations have 3-7 flowers per stem and the flowers
are 1.25 to 1.5 inches across. The flowers have a sweet fragrance and
come in many varieties, including solid, bi-colored and flecked. The
average vase life, with proper care, is 14-20 days.

Pack: Half and full boxes packed in assorted and solid colors.
Care & Handling:
- Cut 1" off the ends of carnations and place in a fresh preservative solution, made with warm water (100°- 110°F).
- Fluff sleeves and leave flowers 1-2 hours at room temperature.
- Place buckets in cooler for 4-6 hours before using for single stem sales, bouquets or arrangements.
- If blooms are extra tight, use warmer water (a maximum of 110°F)
and let sit outside cooler overnight. Be sure preservative solution is
prepared at full, recommended strength.
- Carnations are very sensitive to ethylene. Keep away from all
external sources of ethylene, such as fruit, carbon monoxide and
decaying plant material.
Design Suggestions:
- Carnations and minis are extremely versatile. Use as a focal,
feature or filler flower in arrangements. A wide assortment of color
will provide carnations which are appropriate for every occasion.
- Use in hand-tied bouquets to add volume, color and texture.
Merchandising Suggestions:
- Single stems of brightly colored carnnations are perfect for young customers.
- Create a monochromatic display with other everyday flowers such as:
- pink carns, statice and roses,
- yellow minis, golden aster and glads, and
- white carns, Callas and gyp.
